Anyone know why most SS runes take on that beautiful golden hue while others dont ? Storage conditions maybe ?

Most that I have seen keep their white/silver appearance while very few turn what I would call "coppery". I would guess that it is time, metallurgy of the runes, and perhaps aging of a coating ?

If the original clear lacquer remains,it will turn the hue you describe.

here is mine,, Okey this was found a couple months ago in an old german house,it was hidden in the stairs that led to the attic, never cleaned or taken apart, time did its thing,

Wonder just how many more are still hidden like this?

Im not talking about the copper colored ones but rather , like the color posted by zoza. Perhaps Grumpys explination makes sense.All of my m33's have a color similar to that.

I wouldn't do it, but I'll bet if you rubbed the runes button with an abrasive, you would soon see silver. Lacquer from the era tones a golden brown over time. I have an SS sword with remnants of lacquer on the metal hilt parts and it is that brownish color.

Don't rub it with an abrasive.
