Not for sale; I'll hang on to this one for a while.

One concern I have is that the blade looks a bit too wide towards its tip; maybe it's just an illusion.

Another concern is that the scabbard appears to be original black paint over brown anodizing; like a repainted SA. It fits the crossgaurd and blade perfectly and is original black paint. Would a firm ever have issued an SS dagger with a repainted SA scabbard or perhaps it's just that the metal has rusted under the paint?

Looks OK to me.

Blade shape does not alarm me and trademark is a known one.

Scabbard appears to me black paint over rusting primer, but I cannot say for sure from pictures.

Dave

Nothing wrong with the scabbard, unfortunately its rust. I have the same thing but on one of my SAs. Nice dagger. Larry

I think what is meant is that 807/ is known and accepted, but the maker as yet unattributed.

Good, original dagger. I have 807/36 out of woodwork and its logo, motto and SS roundel are of the same type.

Yes, I meant that the trademark is accepted as real, not that we know who it is.

That is rusting metal/primer, not an SA repaint. Good catch.

Dave

Ok because I myself have a 807/36 and when somebody said it was a known maker kinda threw me off.

Interesting note: that I have seen the RZM Logo reversed in position. ie: RZM on top of the code and Runes on the bottom and vice versa! Larry

Is there any reason why the RZM logo was done this way on the blade sometimes reversed? larry

My thanks to everyone for the help.

Gerd indicated that this RZM code is seldom seen; do others share that opinion? Wittmann's book doesn't really discuss rarity factors for RZM pieces.

Is there a thread here that discusses the relative scaricity of SS daggers with various RZM codes?

Agreed, One thing to watch on this particular dagger is the location of the maker mark. When I see pics of the maker mark without showing the crossguard it always maker me skeptical. Woody if you want to see this email me. I can not post the pics here as they are "borrowed" from a site.

am hoping this does not turn out to be crap, can't afford to replace it, the dealer is known on here, and has had only good remarks.

Sorry Woody but IMHO this is not right.
I have no idea who the dealer is but it doesn't matter, no dealer is perfect.

As was already mentioned the dagger has "issues". Is what I've posted here a current example of laser etching? FP

Fred, I don't think so. Usually the laser etch delivers a finely cut edge at right angles to the blade. The SS runes have the jagged edge more consistent with an acid etch. What is interesting is that the detail of the SS runes do not match the precise cut of the numbering and RZM mark which looks more like a laser etch to me, almost appears to be applied at different times.
