Greetings. My father served in the 254th Infantry 63rd Division during WWII. Somewhere along the way he acquired 6 German daggers. I have had these items in my possession since his death in 1970 and the house closets have reached maximum density. I am either going to sell these, put them in an auction or donate to them to a Houston, TX museum. The sell or auction location is something I am still researching. The Premium Membership seems reasonable ($32.95/yr) to sell these items here. Is there a commission for selling items? However, an auction does appeal to me to let the market set the price ( http://www.rockislandauction.com/home is the leading candidate.) What I hope to accomplish with this post: 1. Make sure I have properly identified what I have. 2. See if opinions can be rendered as to the Condition. What are the Ranks? I understand that via a picture it is difficult at best if not impossible. Is there a reputable individual/shop in the Houston, TX area I could talk with? 3. Welcome any advice or counsel. Are these daggers worthy to attempt selling?; there are some gorgeous specimens posted! Below is what I think I have. I want to thank this forum for providing me the identification information; I now feel informed and confident in talking about my daggers. The 6 responses below are the pictures with my observations. Regards, Will

Will, as you note, the scabbard is incomplete, although it is mostly there. The screws that hold the fittings to the scabbard appear to be missing, also. Helbig is a known maker of these daggers. Although the blade is not in the best of shape, there are more than a few around in worse shape. The set is worth considerably more than $125. Rock Island Auction is a good outfit, but many edged weapons collectors are not aware of it. Ebay is out, due to their "no Nazi" auctions policy. You might Google each dagger you have to connect to dealer and auction sites to see what they are listed at or selling for. Remember, dealer prices tend to be on the high side. Also, condition is very important to collectors. Two of the biggest dealers are Wittmann (wwiidaggers.com) and Johnson (johnsonreferencebooks.com). They carry extensive inventories. Again, their prices are at the top end. You can show the daggers here or privately for identification and price ranges. Good luck on your sales.

I believe this is just some artwork. As a child, I was told the material on top was grenade shrapnel. Marking - None. Notes: Blade not rusty, heavily patina. 2 small noticeable pits.

Type - Heer (Army) Handle Knife (single edge) Markings - None. 7 ¾ inches long. Notes: Sheath some rust between silver bands and has heavy patina. Hilt guard (quillion?) has a crack completely through, however it does no wobble. Hilt is firm. I do not think the sheath goes with this knife. Blade has one rust spot at base. Blade has many vertical scratches. Noticeable blade rust under the magnifying glass.

Type - Heer (Army) Dagger 1935 Markings - Tiger SOLINGEN (tiger picture) Notes: Blade shinny, some rust pitting at base. Blade tip bent slightly. Sheath has some shine with medium patina. Back in 1985 when lasted opened piece of paper says worth $150-175.

First scabbard is for a 2nd Model Luftwaffe. The Pommel, grip, and grip ring are from an Army (Heer) Officer's dagger. The Tiger looks like a nice example.

The last two daggers I think are the same; 1st model Luftwaffe Air Force Daggers. However the diameters of the hilts are different and the hilt heads (pommel?) have different diameters and thicknesses. Both blades are 12 in (30.5 cm) long.

The larger could be a cut down Luft sword.

I think you would be wasting your time with RIA Auctions. The daggers you show... with much respect to your Father... are common and or the low end condition wise. You would be better served to take the advice of the fellows on this board as to price and sell them here..it will save you 25%+ commission charged by RIA. I recently sold several daggers here and was treated well with good advice. If you had rare excellent condition I might counsel otherwise but ... I have a MINT Army dagger and it will be hard to get $350-400 for it. Dagger prices have slumped.
Good Luck!
Jerry Burney

Adam,
Thank you for your time. Here are some more pics for the Army Dagger, especially the blade. Next post has a couple more pics. One good, one a bit fussy, but hopefully useful.
v/r Will
P.S. More Luff blade pics to follow the Army blade.

Hi again the tiger army looks to be in quite decent condition i would say in this condition its godda be worth $350-400 at a guesstimate. Regarding the others i didnt realise there were 2 1st model luftys, i dont really know how to price them but i would say that the Klass would be worth a bit more than the Eickhorn due to the condition of the blade, lets say between $500-$750 for the Klass and $400-$600 for the Eickhorn. I dont have an NSFK dagger and know very little about them but good examples go for at least $1000 so maybe this one is worth $600-$800 at a quess. If anyone thinks i am far out on any of my guesstimates just say as i suppose prices vary on where we are, i think prices in the UK are slightly higher than accross the pond where most of you guys are. I would say there is at least $2000 dollars worth of daggers altogether though and of course all this is JMO.

Greetings.
Between Thanksgiving and getting ready for Christmas, this fell off the back burner. Hopefully, I will get going again.
Just posted one of my dagger for sale. The NSFK (National Socialist Flying Corps) Flyers Knife 1937. Look for Auction - Flying Corps Knife. Will see now this one goes before posting more.
Regards, Will
