Hello,
I've this one since many years in my collection. It was one of my first dagger. Just I've never see this hanger pattern. Is it a very early one? Opinion?
Thanks. JC

The very earliest Hewers by Eickhorn had a full stag grip, and black "anodized" scabbard body. Plus, the early ones were frequently numbered MA=Mann FU= Fuhrer. So, yours may not be the very earliest, but it looks like a home made hanger, especially since it's sewn to the scabbard. The cloth backing on yours is very interesting, maybe a tailor shop product?
The early standard hangers, as you know, were all leather as well, and didn't hold up well.

John I think the jury is still out on the Ma=Mann Fu=Fuhrer debate. I have seen it stated that this marking was location based, as other 2 letter stampings have also been seen-TW has one currently stamped 'Bn' for instance. BTW Exceptionally nice early hanger you have there

Here are photos from Barry B. UK. Another unusual leather hanger.
Nice personalised dagger.

Interestingly you relatively often can find on RAD hewers privately made or privately altered (perhaps due to in wear damaged hanger due to the heavy weight of the hewer) hangers. due to the materials (the special structure leather and the webb-background and several other features I tend to think that Matarese´s hanger is such a period private made hanger. Gentlemen -please- finally stop this "Man" ("Ma") "Führer" ("Fü") debate, its absolute nonesense. As mentioned by Paul, there do exist several other stampings and they have the meaning of the particular RAD supply center (I think Bn stands for Baden, Fü for Fürth and so on). These early hewers (full stag hewers) which were true leader´s herwers mostly were unnumbered (as I think RAD officers/leaders had to optain their hewers themselve likely army officers). Regards,

LOL, when I started collecting 30 years ago, the MA FU was just accepted as Mann Fuhrer. Cool with me if there are other explanations. I have seen Bn, so, other than those three, what other stampings are there? Once I got my Hewer example for the collection, I moved on. I guess I missed the whole debate on the stampings...
