It looks like an original honor ring to me.

- you know usually these rings even in bad condition have nice inner bands.. This ring has some weird condition to it. What the hell happened to it,,ground dug or something?

Noticed that as well G. If I didn't know better I'd think this one was cast in a rubber mold with the apparent inclusion flaws!! grin

Gaspare, in fact you are not alone in pointing out that the ring could be excavated. What is your opinion on the originality?

Jim, I did not understand what you meant.

I have problems with language, I'm sorry again.

Casting items in rubber molds can result in voids(simply put holes like in this example) and shrinkage from the size of the original. There is apparentely a prominent void shown in picture 2 of the example above.
However; I suspect this ring was ground dug and the void may have been caused by other phenomonon.

ok Kim, I understand what you mean.
you think that the ring has a good chance of being authentic and can be found in an excavation. Is that right?

1902:
The source(where it was found) of a ring in this condition is always speculative. However; Any ring in this condition has probably been exposed to some very adverse conditions.
Again; from what little we know; it is believed that many of these rings were lost in battle or simply discarded at wars end.
Again; I am NOT an expert on these rings and what I've stated here is just my opinion after following and trying to learn about these for the past ten years. There are a couple of people who are considered experts on this subject but they don't post on this forum.

Jim, you have been very kind to respond.
thanks for your opinion.
I know what people you refer, I am too disappointed that they did not intervene, but I'm happy that others have said their opinion.

Isn't Schindler a pretty common name in Germany? Might he be better off starting with the Dienstalterlist and seeing which Schindlers are listed as TK ring recipients?

You might contact Russ Kelbaugh(SP?) who posts here periodically. He has had good success in running down information on SS personel.

Hi Mark:

Hans Schindler, SS Nr. 3113 has a SS Officer File and a Race & Settlement
(Rasse-und Seidlung) in the National Archives. He may have a NSDAP membership file card as well. Contact me for more information. By the way, there are 263 with the last name SCHINDLER in the Master Index of SS Names in the Archives.

Enjoy!

Thanks Ross for your help!

I do not know yet what to think about the originality of the ring, someone still has some remarks to make?
