The National Socialist Party in Norway was called Nasjonal Samling and had many features in common with the German NS. The use of military style groupings, medals and badges was one.
On a very recent trip to Norway (I just returned from Europe yesterday), I managed to acquire this collection of NS related items, purportedly all coming from one very nasty family, that of a Leif Wolfstrom.
To start with, here are two different NS membership pins, one in silver and one in gold.
Also, here is an NS necklace.

There were organizations within the NS, called Hirds, which literally translate into 'King's Men'. Like the various German NS organizations, there were groups, or Hirds, for men, youth and boys, as well as for women, teen girls and young girls.
Generally, the badges for these organizations were gold, silver and bronze, but not always.
Here is a Rikshird badge, number 1764, and a Rikshird cap badge.

Along with the above and below pins and badges, came a set of bodyguard collar tabs. Vidkun Quilsing had a special group guarding him and they had unique collar tabs and a badge, consisting of an eagle holding a suncross over the intertwined letters of 'V' and 'Q'.
There was some controversy about these tabs when they were posted on a Norwegian forum. The 'textbook' version of these collar tabs is a 'hard ' backing with a zinc plate backing the cloth the metal insignia is attached to. These tabs, while considered original as to the metal insignia, do not have the hard backing. Some of the Norwegian expert collectors think that this is a soft backed variation and totally period, while others think that the soft backing may be post war.
In any case, these are neat items and not too often seen here.

There was an organization called Kamporganisasjon. This literally translates into 'Fight Organization' and these were the shock troops, the equivalent to the SA.
Of course, they would have their own pins.
Here is the pin that came with this collection, numbered 4704.

During the 1930s and 1940s, there was a desire to link the various Germanic people across national boundaries.
Out of this, came what is called the Norwegian German Association. There were several Germanic type pins issued in the 1940's and this one is for the youth group within this association.

Finally, and the major reason why I acquired this collection, we have two pins that indicate membership in the Germanic SS Norge, the Norwegian equivalent to the SS.
The first is a very nice example of the GSSN supporting member pin, number 1981.
Second, and even more rare, is a pin indicating membership in GSSN, number 281.
Many times, these pins, if found at all, have damaged enamel, but these two are in really nice shape.
Enjoy,
John

I had a great time in Norway. LH, too bad that we couldn't manage to get together during this trip. But, there is always next year.
And, Janos, my friend, thank you so much for your hospitality and friendship on this and on previous trips to Budapest. I will be seeing you again next year.

Just this week, the German Norwegian Association pin finally arrived. It is called the Norsk Tysk Selskap merke.
Here are pics of the pin as well as another shot of the youth version of the same association.

There were three female organizations within the Nasjonal Samling, they were the Smahird (young girls), the Jenntehird (teens) and the Kvinnehird (women or ladies).
Each organization had its own pin.
Just arrived today (in time for Christmas) is this fine example of a Jenntehird pin. And, I also show you the corresponding Smahird pin.

The Norwegian Women's organization consisted of three Hirds, Smahird (little girls), Gjentehird or Jentehird (teens) and women Kvinnehird. There was also a Kvinne Organisation. Each group had its pins and its arm badges.
Above you can see the pins for the Smahird and the Jentehird.
I have arm badges for the Smahird and the Kvinnehird showing here... the green is for Smahird and the yellow is for the Kvinnehird.

The NS Party in Norway emulated many of the German Nazi party organizations and awards.
Here is an arm patch that is the equivalent to the German Alte Kampfer Chevron... it is the Norwegian Old Campaigner Chevron, called an Aeresvinkel.

And, they also ahd an equivalent to thd DLV/NSFK, called the Hirdens Flykorps.
The pin for the HFK reminds one of the pins the Germans put out, too.

The Arbeidstjenesten or AT were the equivalent of the German RAD or labour service.
I have two badges from the AT.
The first, Kontroll Befal, is one for the police service of the AT.
The second, Vakt AT, is a camp guard badge.
You can find most of these badges and cloth items in David Littlejohn's book, Foreign Legions of the Third Reich, Vol 1.

In 1944, the Nasjonal Samling published a yearbook with some of their rules, pictures of their emblems and uniforms (a lot of this appears in the Littlejohn book on Foreign Legions of the SS) and list of names of party members in the various regions of Norway.

The members of the police companies who fought in Finland against the Russians were eligible for a so called Police Honour Medal.
This medal came in 2 classes, all rare, but the 2nd class one being much more difficult to find.
I already had 2 copies of the 1st class medal, one with a repaired suncross. I finally found this 2nd class medal, and after some fierce bidding, managed to snag it for my small Norwegian collection.
Here it is for you to enjoy along with me.

The National Samling Ungdomsfylking (NSUF) was the Norwegian equivalent to the Hitler Youth.
There were two versions of the NSUF membership pins, one painted with a shorter pin and one enamelled with a longer pin. As is typical of a lot of enamel work from that era, the enamel is damaged. This pin also has the 925S silver marking on the rear.
Here are shots of the two pins, the first one is the painted version, the second grouping is of the enamelled version, just in from Norway last week.

The Nasjonal Samling Youth Group engaged in regular sports competitions.
Medals were commissioned and given out in bronze, silver and gold classes, as well as participation medals for each competition starting in the summer of 1941.
Here is an example of such, a bronze medal for the summer games of 1941 in Drammen.

The Nasjonal Samling in Norway had three female groups, or Hird.
The youngest girls could be members of the Smahird, teen girls could join the Jentehird and adult females the Kvinnehird.
It took me quite a while, but I finally found a Kvinnehird membership badge.
Here it is along with badges for the other two organizations.

The Nasjonal Samling had annual meetings, some years in Hamar and some in Oslo.
6 of the 8 annual meetins had commemorative badges issued for them.
Today, I recieved the last two that I needed of the 6, one for the 1936 and one for the 1939 meetings.
Here they are.

Norwegians were divided into two camps, those who supported the Nazis and the Nasjonal Samling and those who resisted.
Resistance came in many forms, from active groups within Norway to armed fighters from outside Norway to those who served in the Norwegian merchant marine during the war years to earn money for the government in exile to continue to fight.
The king of Norway during the war years was Haakon VII and a series of badges and pins were issued for private purchase (probably part of the war financing effort) with the motif, H7, for the people who resisted.
Here are my two latest H7 badges as well as my collection of them.
These last two arrived in the past week making this start of 2015 my best year ever.

Here are three new badges for me.
The first is a bronze sports award. These came in two versions, this one with a cut out centre and ones with solid centres. As usual, they came in bronze, silver and gold versions.
The second and third badges commemorate a meeting, Siklestad, in Oslo in 1942.

H7 was teh symbol of Norwegian resistance and stood for Haakon 7, the king in exile.
These four beret badges were all manufactured in the UK and spanned the years from 1942 to 1945.
The maker mark appears on all 4 badges as well as the year code ('S' for 1942, 'T' for 1943, U' for 1944, 'V' for 1945). Of these, the 'V' dated one is the hardest to find.
These badges were worn by Norwegian free armed forces members.

The guys who fought for the Axis side were generally treated as war criminals and subject to jail or execution following the war's end... they would not be given one of these.
My father in law got one given out in the 1980's when Norway belatedly recognized the role that the merchant marine played in winning the wsr. This was typical of most Allied nations, a shame really. He was kind of pissed and never did show his medal to anyone or talk much about his war experiences.

Instituted on Oct 27, 1942, and issued as a ribbon to those in the armed forces stationed in Great Britian, this medal was also given out after the war and issued with the Participation Medal (deltakermedaljen).
It celebrates Haakon VII's birthday on Aug 3, 1942.
This also was given out only to those who fought on the Allied side.

Instituted on May 18, 1945, this medal was awarded to foreign and Norwegian personnel who served the Norwegian cause during the war.
The initial production with this needle suspension (similar to the one for the Haakon VII 70th birthday above) was awarded to some 204 Norwegians and 597 British citizens.
In 1988, the medal was reissued with a traditional needle to 12,178 civilians who served at least 54 months on Norwegian merchant ships during the war.
Here is the earlier version with case and its corresponding miniature.
Again, this was only given to those on the Allied side during the war years.

Thanks, G!
These ones are the 'common' ones for Norway war related medals.
Now, the hunt is on for the really rare ones, like the War Cross with Sword (krigskorset med sverd) and the King Haakon VV Liberty Cross ... these two were given out to 273 people and some 470 respectively.
As usual, the fun is in the hunt.

There were some 700 Nordmen who volunteered in Finland for the Winter War against the Russians.
These Norwegians were eligible for a special medal. It was given to people who eventually ended up on both sides of the war after the German invasion of Norway.
There are two versions of this medal.
I just received this one.

The NS held their 8th convention in Oslo on Sept 25-27, 1942.
They issued a booklet and a badge for the attendees.
On my latest trip to Norway, I managed to snag the bookleet, already having a copy of the badge.

The AT (Arbeidstjeneste) were Norway's equivalent to the German RAD.
Here is a pin for the AT administration.
In 1944, the NS instituted a heroic deed or lifesaving medal (Medaljen for Redningsdad). Only 25 of these were ever made and 18 were actually issued between, 1944 and 45. All of them were made by J Tostrup of Oslo. Note that the maker mark is also preceded by the Norwegian silver hallmark of 830S. Here is one of the 25.

I also picked up this collection from one female member of the youth organization and eventually the female portion of the NS.
The collection consists of 6 paper documents, all from the NSUF, the youth. Also, armband and patch, the jentehird pin (#7) and her NS membership book, the KO pin (#1579) and membership book, and I added a Stor-Oslo cufftitle used by the NSUF.
Papers in next post.

Thank you all for your kind words here.
I also picked up this collection attributed to a Norwegian youth member who also participated in a number of Hitler Youth events and has the miniature pins for them.
He was a member of the SS skijager battalion and was a police volunteer and has cufftitles from the NS youth group in Opland.
And, I have his post war prisoner uniform badge number (5148).
So, here is his little collection:
- prisoner badge number 5148 - HJ membership pin RZM 7/90 - Riksmote 8 1942 meeting badge - HJ Leistung in silver RZM 1/101 - DJ Leistung RZM 1/120 - SS button RZM 63 - police cap badge L&WH - NSUF arm patch - Verneidrettsmerke - cufftitle Frivilligenhjelp (police) - cufftitle Germanische Landdients - cufftitle Opland (NSUF)
A great and interesting collection.

The Norwegian Nasjonal Samling government modeled many of their institutions after the German National Socialists.
Here we have two AT (Arbeidtjeneste) armbands. The AT was the equivalent of the German RAD.
One was for the AT itself, the other is a Press armband.

The predecessor to the NS was the Fredreland party, translated as Freedom Party. Most members of this party went onto and joined the NS when it was formed.

Here are the Number 3 Hafrsfjord (and Rogaland, Agder and Telemark) and Number 4 Gulating (and Hordaland and Sogn and Fjordane).
Plus, one reference book, called the Nasjonal Samling Yearbook from 1944. There are other reference booklets, such as the ones re Norway in Sweden (Idrett for Norge), etc but few have come to my attention.
Derek Schei and Geir Brendan have put out a three (so far) volume of Norwegians volunteers on the German side (Norske krigsfrivillige pa tysk side), but these tend to focus on the insignia and medals given out or allowed by the German armed forces for Norwegian volunteers.

Here is a movie poster from a film made for the German high command and celebrating German victories up until the invasion of Norway in 1940.
For some reason, this film was never released and it was thought lost with only a few pictures from the film surviving the war. A full nitrate copy was found at auction in 2005 and the film has been released in Germany and Norway.
Here is a reference to this:

John I don't think this has anything to do with the film. There was a commemorative magazine published for the Feldzug with 48 pages (if counting the front and rear covers), and that magazine has this cover. Here are a few of the pages, including front and back.

BTW, the one for Riksmote 8 is hardcover.

The NS had a very large and formidable youth group organization.
Every year, they held athletic games in the summer and winter and I found a programme for the 1943 winter games in Lillehammer.
As well, here is the rule book from 1944 for the youth org (Ungdom) and the 1944 rule book for the youth marine org (Unghirdmarine)

With a very active resistance movement, the resistance groups openly appeared in the latter days of the war and continued operations during and after the transition once the Germans surrendered. The groups typically were identified by use of the H7 logo, standing for Hakon 7, the king in exile.
Here are some resistance armbands.

Lots of great stuff in here, this is a great reference topic for us English-speaking collectors.
I started collecting Norwegian just this past October...and had no idea how much stuff the Nasjonal Samling actually produced...so much variety! It's a very interesting niche, and very hard to find and learn about on this side of the globe
