Most of these rings we see we tend call WW 1 rings.
True, many were bought and sold during the 1st WW. But many were made after the war and well into the 1930's as remembrance rings/Patriotic rings..
Please feel free to add your WW 1, Inter-war, Freikorp era, and WW 2 era Patriotic rings...
This is a silver ring, no content stamp.. Has 3 stripes of enamel with the German colors. Also a black enamel Swastika.. This ring I'd say would date to be an early 1930s piece..

 Yes this is real a special ring. Silver, deep red enamel, the austrian "Tunkan" and a makers mark. And --- 2! --- seams. Not one on the oposite of the plate, 2 behind the shoulders. Here some better pics

Members,,Please check out Odals Bismark ring with date.. This date is hand cut with a jewelers hand graver.
This is exactly what you want to look for when inspecting hand engraved rings/jewelry. You can see were the start or plunge of the tool starts, the slight twist of the tool makes the wider spots for effect. This too applies to Honor Rings,,on authentic pieces you will see this similar type of work.. Very nice..

Hi Dean, "old" friend! Nice to meet you here! Yes, you are right. This ring is a very special one. At least 95 years old. Perfect made. In front the prussian eagle Thor and Germania and the rest of the band is complete covered with military scenes. Inside also some nice inscriptions: iron cross and some famous Bismarck words. Maybe i post some more pics of this ring here.

Enjoying the incredible ring displays Gaspare,Odal, and Benten.
On Gaspare's recent 1914-1918 post I think the nouveau styling included with the rifle sets it off nicely.
On Odal's recent glasston I like the way the oakleaves are flowing in the same direction as the swaz...like they are attempting to hold it in motion.

Here is a German Patriotic ring of a different sort: This ring I am told was a German/Italian "Unity" ring and was given out to Italian visitors of note to Germany. Note the fascist symbol superimposed over the swastika. The ring is die stamped in three parts,as virtually all rings were in Germany prior to the 1950s. It was then sized and silver soldered together. The box is NOT original to the ring and did NOT come with the ring and I am just using it as a convienent display medium!  Therefore it has NO COA,EEC,POS and anything else certificate wise with it! I think it came from some jewelry exchange. Jim

Jimbo, well the ring is 100% authentic for sure,,at least its not a rope box, no matter, boxes are way over rated these days anyway! It's a nice one,,a womans version and they are hard to find!!

 Sorry my late answer E.! I had a long of thinking on this ring and now my opinion is it is made between 1934 and the late 30ies. My reason therefore is the design of the band and the rifle the soldier holds (to see on the right side of the head). I think this gun is a Karabiner 98K. But at all i am not real sure. This is the only ring of this pattern i know. And it is the only glas-stone with this head i saw.

Very smart jeweler. When you resize a ring with enamel in it you will have a problem. If you just cut and make smaller/bigger the enamel WILL crack.
These strips are for makeing a ring 'smaller' fit for someone and works great.

Odal,very good ring. Nice old wear. Interesting to see how the band is made smaller inside. Looks like the band was milled out a bit before the extra inside band was placed. Perhaps the open place was already made by the factory.
I met a guy that had two smooth pins inside backside ..... Another way and easy way to make the ring smaller.
Ringman, these rings are beauties and I have never seen before Top!

many of these rings with date 1918 on them were made way after. Usually right up to the 1930s... GD ring too...

The first one, i think its Alpacka, has no stamp and i got from a friendly meber here - wolf100.

The second one comes from an auction is silver and has the "?35"-stamp (the first number isn`t readable).

Yes, this Bismarck-rings (Thor/Germania/different branches) are real nice ones with a lot work in it.
Not really rare, but if for selling mostly rather expensive.
I had a year ago or so email-contact to a other collector, mainly not rings, that has a weakness for that ring-pattern.
This time he had 3 of them. All in this main-pattern, but all with some little differences inside.
It would be nice to see your ring here.

I think my WW1 Patriotic ring is just like yours. The Verlobungsring isn't very often seen at all anymore. Have you seen this type before? I have a real weakness for these myself. Thanks.

Yes, Mikee, the outside of your patriotic Ring looks like mine.
And yes, i have seen the "Verlobungsring" before. It looks like made in the same kind as the patriotic one only with a different decors. On my opinion both are made in the same time.
The "Verlobungsring" is more rare than the patriotic. I have seen 2 or 3 over the years but never owned one.

I agree, imo both were made during the same period and I also have only seen a few over the years and had the chance to purchase them and should have, but didn't for some reason. Imo they are some of the best period WW1 war rings and real works of art with each panel portraying a scene. Thank you.

These are out of my field of study,,but,,The seller is a master jewelry counterfeiter. He does occasionally/rarely sell a authentic ring.
I'd get more/ better photos before purchasing it!

He has some good rings - he buys a lot of old jewelry.
And for sure he makes his own ones.
In exact this ring i am not real sure. But i know he had a good one of this pattern in silver and also a good one of the Bismarck-pattern.

Bakelite was in use by the early 1920s...
All nations tried/played around with it for various reasons.
The pin set up kind of looks US , but in the early/mid 1920s trade was world wide so anyone could have been using it.. Maybe someone has similar and we'll get to see more...

Thanks friends! Markings: On the second pic ring 1 and 2 have only "800". On the 3. ring you can´t see real the stamp - there is inside a second band for downsizing. Ring 4 and 5 have austrian marks (tukan) and the last has no marks - it is silvered brass/copper. Wow G.! - You got it! I think i understand your idea and i think you are 100 % right. Black swas, white/silver round in red shield ist german (black/white/red). White/silver swas on red field is austrian - colours of austria red/white

Here the next promised partypin pattern.
Exact same style as one of the ring above. Only here is a white enamel around the swas (black/white/red). Ring has a large size, some wearing, "800" mark on backsite plate, well made seam and a little damage in the red enamel.
But, what is this? Behind the enamel it looks like there is a seperate brass? plate.
Sombody here for explaining this to us?

Yes the other ring has a little enameldamage at the red one too.
And behind this enamel again is a kind of brass.
In all hard to say, but yes, i think too it is a kind of thinn sheet or foil. On both rings this, i call it now so, foil has symetrical structures.
In my opinion real to reflekt and brake incoming light through the very glasy enamel.
And, if i remeber right, brass is one of the best materials to hold enamel.

This is real hot glass enamel, right?
If so than answer is a tricky nature of this kind red color enamel. It will not lay on this low silver content base. With this enamel is pretty hard to work. To "fool" this enamel you can use pure silver 999, which is unacceptable in this case because of its softness. You can make richer silver surface. Or you can go this way with brass liner. There are few more possibilities like to make colorless enamel undercoat etc. Had a lot of "fun" with this enamel in restoration before.

Hi, how it was usually done I do not know. Because today is available that colorless enamel with higher melting point. So today this technology with brass is pretty useless and pain in ******** anyway.

Ring is brass and silver plated. The red and black are enamel.

I am not real sure that i understand your question with my english correct But, yes, i think after may 33 most of this rings were such items therefoere the "Kitsch"-law (Gesetz zum Schutze der nationalen Symbole ....)was made. Par example - remember how much of the real much Westwall rings show as swastika - only a hand full. For using this symbols on a in Germany (1938 Austria too) you needed after may 33 a offical permission. So there was only a realativly short time this items are produced and thats in my opinion the reason that they are rather rare.

A private purchase ring / and or a 'Canteen' ring...all are :
Mass produced rings for retail... Some guys like to collect custom one of a kind rings,,thats fine. But they are hard to authenticate and even date. Most of us here on thisforum collect mass produced made for retail sales rings!

Oh yes, I absolutely agree. Even while the Nazis were seizing power at the end of January 1933, a frenzy of all types of things imaginable was being mass produced by businesses big and small to make money. It was big business up until May 1933. The law and directives of 19 May 1933 put a big damper on it. But as we know they couldn't and didn't confiscate all of it. I remember an article which stated that a business had been warned not to sell Kitsch items anymore, and that the items weren't confiscated.

Odal and I have been looking into this exact thing,,,the laws concerning this stuff!
Seems like they were deadly serious right around 1933,,,but for some odd reason there wasn't any enforcement.. Probably because it would have been almost impossible to enforce.
I think by the time the war started they basically just gave up and let be.... BUT, there might have been years before / or shortly after 1933 that there was a under the table understanding that jewelers and retails might have 'donated' some cash to the party for the no enforcement of the laws. [?]
We've found some laws,,but as I mentioned,,there wasn't enforcement.........

Kitsch is far more than what we collect so that's really not entirely true, it was enforced to an extent but you have to look at the bigger picture of what was going on as early as 1928 with the League for German Culture and then with the renamed National Socialist Culture Community in 1934, which is the time frame we are interested in. And they in turn were aligned with the official body for cultural surveillance, or the Dienstelle Rosenberg. Have you heard the phrase "when I hear the word culture, I reach for my gun"? This isn't the actual phrase used in the play, but the one most used by Nazi leaders.
I agree. In 1933 the laws and directives were new and from what I've learned enforcement was taken serious by propaganda officers and police, but maybe because it was new more warnings were given. It seems that the Brown House judges in Munich, had decided on fresh decisions and passed more then a few items as unobjectionable because of the quality. But there was still a very long list of items that didn't pass judgment. I believe they did attempt to stop it, but how in the world could they totally. They couldn't and I believe they must've understood this fact.
Maybe this Kitsch served another purpose for them, because it did continue and articles of the day questioned why it was allowed to continue. Illegal activity flourishes as long as a product sells and we can't rule out the possibility that the propaganda ministers pockets were lined. But then again he was a hard core true believer in his party and AH, so did he truly mean what he stated in his speech?
In a speech he stated; "That for the advancement and maintenance of a program, an art was necessary which would encompass not simply symbols and events but a basic structure of ideas. So artistic value was not to be determined by cheap, anecdotal directness". Why it was allowed to continue is another mystery.

To bad. My english isn´t good enaugh for deep discussions about this theme. After reading and researching a lot in my opnion the gouvernment in this time dit everything to stop these so called "Kitsch"-items. I am sure they forced through their law. There are examples enaugh for such manner. In the case of this "Kitsch"-law they even gone a step further. This law too became valid for pics, busts and other artworks that showed Hitler. About this theme i found last weeks a very interesting and well researched book that uses and shows a lot of documented sources.

Your doing just fine. Kitsch is so much broader than must realize. Agreed, these were the directives. It also covered leading personalities, art, singing and songs, literature, etc. Police regulations can also take effect and enforced. I'm sure I have that book and probably more. Thanks.

Left one a little plain, red and black enamel,content marked. The other Red White and Black enamel, nice band, content marked..

Ok, if no one else has an opinion...Odal, thanks for the nice ring pics...so I see the evidence of the swas/ circle construction and at the very least this adds more handcrafting to the value of the ring IMO in piece construction...here's what I like or rather stands out to me...the marcasite stones are pretty cool...i don't know much abt the stone, so my curiosity is piqued because I wonder if that's the gems natural crystalline form? That IMO would be really cool Odal. Nice ring anyway

sorry to coment had some extra work around the ranch here those marcisite rings you show are great looking 1930s 935silber marked style ladies rings . there was many different styles in early 1930s especially the political ones when adolf was sturing the pot especially at his many people rallys im sure some vender was selling these marcisite rings to the ladies at these big rallys ps odel if you keep buying these third reick rings your running out of room now only place left is with the dogs gott mitt uns to you meine friend andy militarynut

Been waiting a few weeks on this one.. Was about to give up hope when it arrived today..
These are always nice to find,,,especially in nice condition like this one..
Thin band, polished inner, stamped 835 in band,,probably mid 30s.
It's got some old polish built up in the lines, nooks and crannies. I'll do a light brushing, then warm water mild soap wash,,and in the case!
Too a quick look in my files.. Found an advert that is pretty close to mine..

I personal think a "mix". German made (the hallmarking) for Finnland (the colour of enamel). I baught it from a finnish auction.

nice patriotic german ring you show here just looking at the wear around the front swaz and the missing enamel man if this ring could talk and tell us where it was in germany at this early time who knows . also a little history lesson here we had the american bund here in america among the german americans who still surported thier home land and just adored the american fuhrer fritz kuhn who in the 1930s rented madison square garden in new york city thousands of people went to this big event there was a big riot thats for sure and the conection with the german people whos relitives was here probly had these patriotic rings sent over from the home land also some of these patriotic rings were made here in america out of sterling silver i have had a few perhaps i might still have them i call them american bund i will have to look im sorry i just am forgetting what i have any more and i mean those words well hope all enjoyed my history lesson last i can say this i married a great german american girl my bride in 1958 at the same german beer garden hall from where some germans had thier american bund meetings every week in back of this german beer hall thank you every body god bless andy militarynut
