I thought I would show an Enlisted Manschafts-säbel that I picked up at a gun show over the weekend. This is a very good example of why I keep telling myself to pick up and examine every plain-Jane sword that I see at these shows.
While the sword is a standard WKC Nr.137 enlisted man's sword it has an extra cost blade with a generic triple etch.

And, here is the money shot showing the unexpected etched blade. The dealer did not think anything more of this sword than the two other plain swords he had on his table. Therefore, I was able to buy it at a very good price.

Thanks guys. Every once in a while I can find a gem that way. I just have to keep reminding myself to pick up the common appearing stuff and take a closer look.

Anyone else see the Weyersberg NCO w/etched blade on www.gunbroker.com ? He`s been trying to sell it for $475.00 for a few months now. He also had one on EBAY. I`d shoot him an offer, but funds are sorely lacking...

Hi George- I've been talking to him for a few months on the piece. It hasn't been selling, and like you said, he lowered the price.
I sort of feel that based on the state of current market conditions, he wants or wanted I should say, a bit much. He's not very flexible. If he drops to $400 or even a bit less, i'd probably move on it. It's a plan Jane etch, unlike George's score with the fancy etch.
I had asked FP his opinions on the etch a month or so ago seeing etches are not my strong area. I get ticky tacky on EM etches since some were embellished in the 70's with the batch of bayos, all done in the UK.

Not a bad sword... pretty much the same as the generic etch WKC that I picked up but I did not pay anywhere near what he is asking. I think he is a little high too but maybe he will come down after a while. Some of those gun guys think swords are all worth $1,000.+ each because they have not got a clue about anything except blue book guns. But, sometimes you can get a good deal from them. I have bought a couple of swords fairly cheaply there but most of them are overpriced, IMHO. I do think that the generic etches are certainly worth less than the regimental identified swords of the same type. George
