Maybe it's the brass in these specific rings? Impurities that cause them to go purple more so than others? Just a guess.......Here's a style not posted yet. (Credit to owner.)

I've noticed that there's some variance in this style of ring. At left is mine, the other is one sold by Kai Winkler.....Note the positions of the posts over which I've put a red dot.
