hello Vikodlak, welcome the the forum...Yes, thats a little pricy..Sometimes you can get them for half that..Keep looking , one will come your way.. Many have problems with the book like no page numbers, double spacing the text, B&W photos. But its still the best out there, with plenty of good info in it... , G.

I believe there were three printings of Don's book so there are copies out there. Although I don't have my own copy yet, I do have access to one for reference. I agree with Gaspare that the book has a lot of good facts but this one's not reasonably priced, anymore that is.

I know they say knowledge is expensive but this is something else entirely.
I wonder, why the disparity in prices? Both books seem completely identical however there's a lot more high bidding on the one with a reserve.

As I see it,
The book with the reserve was listed first, and drew early heavy bidding. It was moving right along until the no-reverve book was put up there too.
The second book, without the reserve, has affected the bidding on the first book, as the high reserve was lowered, but still no-one has entered in the reserve bid, and if it's not met it'll go unsold, and none of those high bidders will be out any money.
Bidders have turned their eye to the no reserve book.
Chuck

Chuck's right, the bidding on the first book (with reserve) seemed to drop off once the second book (without reserve) popped up. I wonder if that'll mean a flurry of snipers on the second book when it ends tonight.
Also interesting is that the seller on the reserve book lowered it to the point that the next bid will trigger the reserve, I've never seen a listing state that before. I presume the seller surmised his reserve was too high to begin with.
Both these books are signed third editions. I believe the one that sold for $811 was a numbered and signed first edition. Is it possible to think another numbered and signed first edition could go as high as the first one? Simply stunning.

Hi Ron,
It depends, but I'd be inclined to say not as much as the recent hardcovers. The softcovers aren't as desireable, particularly if the buyer is looking for the book itself as a collectible. This seems to be the case with these current prices of the hardcovers. I think you could still get a decent return on your purchase price if the buyer is simply interested in the information contained therein.
It's something how militaria books have themselves become items to covet. Lookk at the prices many Angolia books, long out of print, routinely go for. While I think the info is the primary need for one of these book, it is kinda nice having the book itself, especially with the recent prices.

Hello Billy G. I was kind of sharing some sarcastic humor. There is no way that those books command that kind of price. I wonder if they are are legitimate bids or some people just running it up. Somebody just has too much money to waste. I agree with Gaspare. I bet Don is really enjoying those prices!

Hi Ron, Don't mind me, I missed that. That said, I have heard people mummering about selling off their books if these prices keep up, including softcovers

So, what's a reasonable value for one of these in today's market?

I know of several sales on and off Eban in the $600 range although subsequent Eban auctions seemed to level off between $300 and $400. To my knowledge none ever reached the $811 mark from the initial auction that started this thread. I haven't seen a lot of auctions for the book recently, this is after the glut of them in early Summer.
