As a Luftwaffe tunic and tab specialist, I use the following:
"Uniforms and Traditions of the Luftwaffe", Vols 1-3 by Angolia
"Uniforms of the Luftwaffe", vols 1-2 by Brian Davis
"Hermann Goering, From Regiment to Fallschirmpanzerkorps" by Roger Bender
"Air Organizations of the Third Reich: The Luftwaffe", by Roger Bender
"Air Organizations of the Third Reich" by Roger Bender (Despite the same name, they are different books. This is the predecessor to the above listed.)
I have others, yet these are the books I use the most.
Regards Paul

Although a catalogue rather than a reference book "Heering - Hüsken, Katalog der Abzeichen deutscher Organisationen 1871-1945" covers virtually all enamel & organisational badges. As with any work, there are disputed items in it & others missing, only obverse images are shown, no reverses.
A forgotten work is "Brüggemann - Rowedder, Deutschland im Spiegel seiner Abzeichen 1930 - 45". Similar to Hüsken but only 53 pages (Hüsken is over 400) & printed in 1977.
Cheers Don

If you guys could suggest one book for beginning collectors which would it be? I'm looking for a book on pin and or medals that's still in print and can help prevent me from getting burnt on fakes.

This is one of those questions that needs to be a lot more specific as to the collecting area if we are talking about one or two books.
German daggers, uniforms, helmets, etc, all have their own answers. As do Japanese, US, and other fields of militaria collecting.
For general info on German daggers, I would buy Tom Johnson's Volume 1 (in print) or John Angolia's "Daggers, Bayonets, and Fighting knives of Hitler's Germany" which is long out of print. Both are 35 years or old and have a few glitches, but they are the only reasonably accurate books that covert the whole range of daggers.
For specialized books on daggers, Tom Wittmann's Army, Navy, Luft, and SS books are valued in-depth references. For NPEA, Ron Weinand's great new book is the one to own.
If your interest is railroad eagles, John Meda - or "JR" on this forum wrote what I am told is a great reference.
Hope this helps, Dave

Here's a couple of books I haven't seen mentioned.
Medals + decorations of Hitlers Germany by Robin Lumsden Forman's guide to third reich German awards + their values 3rd edition by Adrian Forman
They seem to compliment each other as Forman's book has excellent pics of front + back of medals + the different cases + paper packets.Lumsden's gives good description of how medals were awarded, list of makers codes,a breif chapter on fakes + can get it off ebay for usually under $20 if you watch.
