Just got this today from the fine folks of Philipp Militaria

I want to thank Denny Roach, (probably) the world´s leading authority on German army daggers from the 1933-45 period, for his assessmen of his piece. He probably wouldnt like to be quoted on this forum, but he felt the makers mark is fine, 4th type chronologically among the 6 known Tiger marks. Generic A fittings and probably Eickhorn scabbard, all consistent with Tiger production

I dont have permission from Denny to share this image here (i didnt ask), but since it is available right now publically on another site, here is his collage of Tiger marks in chronological order

Thanks also to "Wotan" another generous and knowledgeable collector and moderator who also gave me feedback ahead of buying this.

Small alteration by wotan in accordance with Gustavo.

Gustavo-
Very nice. I really love the white gripped Heers. I've always said i'm gonna' find a nice one to hold onto..and certainly a named example like this one would be wonderful specimine for a collection.

Congrats on a nice one.

Thats a very nice Tiger Gustavo!

Looking over the six variations on the tiger trademarks you posted above I was looking at one in my collection. Mine might be a seventh variation, Look at the similarity to type #2 but notice the diference in the "R". My dagger kinda looks like type 3, but spaced further from the crossguard.

Mine is all early production with a tapered tang and an orange juice grip. Smile

Thanks folks. At €520 or under $800, I am very satisfied with this purchase. Reseach wise, the chances of pinning this down to a single officer are very high.

Gus, most of your daggers appear to be personalised, do you specialise or do you collect anything and just get lucky with the personolised ones Wink

Gus I think todays collectors are faced with many choices in their collecting preference choices, much down to budget. When I first came back to GD's I wanted to do what I did back in the late 60's early 70's, i.e. have one of each, it soon became apparrant that that was not on, I just collect Heers and 2nd lufts now, to include etched when I can find nice ones at a decent price.
I have watched your collection grow on here (GDC)and you have some wonderful personal pieces, I hope you get many more.

One of my favorites is this early Tiger with a Monogramed pommel and the "S" on the scabbard.

I believe so.
Brass base, heavy silver plate, taper tang, slant grip and earliest Tiger logo.
Some have called it the "Big Tiger or "King Tiger" logo.

Thanks Hakan and Pat.

With all that brass it's a heavy Army rig.

To find a Big Tiger Pat? Not easy to find but you know Denny. I would see if he could be talked out of a Big Kitty. Wink

Guys, one of u might want the early Tiger marked (big cat like Serge´s) transitional DLV at Wittmann´s site, with an amazing inscription dedication to the departing commander of an airfield. It was pictured in one of the books.

I think it was around 1am when I posted that Pat, listned to some music for an hour or so then definitely lights out by 2.

Benny Hill, classic British humour, after political correctness killed him off in the UK I believe he tried his luck in the US but without any significant success, thanks for that Pat.
