Have anybody of you ever seen such a hunting knife or even such a kind of knife??? The grip is HOLLOW, there is not the least trace of any welding grip/blade. The grip is extremely skillful cut steel. The whole knife is stainless steel. There is a mark I also have not seen before. The whole knife seems to be of highest quality. There came no regular scabbard with this knife (only a simple unprofessional sheat of keather cruedly stitched in no way conforming to the high quality knife, therefore I did not picture it). One of my very close relatives got this knife, which is without the less doubt period, from a teacher of a university, who has been a passionate hunter at these times (and later), shortly after the war.

It's a real beauty. Looks like it was made for presentation--the blank plaque at the top. Never saw anything quite like it or the maker's TM.

Even though this knife is elegantly crafted it has that no nonsense "working" look to it. As a hunter myself I would have no reservations about using it to dress out a big game animal. Jim

Wotan,
That's an exceptionally nice piece, thanks for letting us have a look. The grip quality seems to suggest it was fashioned by a jeweler like Zeitner instead of coming directly from a normal blade manufacturer.
Top-quality work and something absolutlely special!
Best regards,
Bill

Thank you for looking and for writing your comments. I am glad you like it. Personally I think this hunting knife is one out of those knife maker schools. What seems strange for such a kind of student made knife is the maker mark on the blade. i it "one-of-a-kind"? As said I have not seen another one made like this one. I like it because of it´s nice steel carved grip and I think it always will keep it´s little secret of origin (concerning manufacturing).

Wotan, great looking knife, you never cease to amaze me with your collection, have you thought that it might not be a makers mark at all, possibly just a design on the blade, if it is such a knife made by an apprentice then maybe he just added it to show what he can do, the position of it on the blade may be just a coincidence.I would be very surprised if he was allowed to put his own mark on it. Whatever it is, it takes away nothing from such a super knife.

Hello philippe, thank you for your valuable contribution to this (old) thread. It is very interesting as I have not heard of Blumelhuber (or Blümelhuber???) until now. Steyr/Austria would fit perfect. Please, what is the source of your knowledge and do you have any additional informations? Regards,

philippe, first let me thank you for solving my old personal mystery! My earlier research has led me to a "sideway", as I have gotten a (right) hint that the mark on the blade is the mark for "Böhler-Steel". Therefore I have thought that any man of the Böhler steel works has done this knife. Naturally, after your first posting, I have done an immediate search concerning Blümelhuber which has led me to the same link you have posted now above. The close resemblance of some of Blümelhuber´s works has been astonishing. It is especially mentioned that blade and grip have been done of a single piece of steel which I always have expected as there are no traces of welding or something like this. Now with the final step to Ledl (which has been logical as Blümelhuber has died 1936, two years before the "Anschluss" and the dokumentation of the certain knife within the link, the mystery is truely solved. I know that you are a connoiseur of hunting daggers and obviously you are also familiar with the finest niches in this field of collecting. Thank you once more, regards,
