One of my uncles served with the USMC, 1st MAW in China during WW II. He brought this sword bac along with a few other goodies. I've seen it since I was 10 years old. Unfortunately his sons have screwed around with it. It used to have a handle and a canvas tag on it. They're gone to time now.
The blade is 29 1/2" tip to habaki. I have no idea of how old it is. The tang hole appears drilled. Any help would be appreciated. I will not be selling it.

cant see to much on these photos of your unckles bring back japanese sword are you sure you measured the blade from the tip of the blade to the front of the habaki not the rear of the habaki i might be wrong but it looks possibly 26-27 inches not 29 . now the tang picture is very bad i cant see any thing of the tang and the hole in tang shoulnt be drilled its hand punched also is the scabard wood as i think it is or metal the picture of the cutting edge of blade that shows not in good polish untill you can give a better picture and answer the questions above this would help me to help you hope you agree have a nice day andy militarynut

The cutting edge tip to habaki is 29 1/2". He's some better photos. The scabbard is wood, canvass covered, leather drag. There are no marking on either side of the tang.

these are better pictures yes these pictures do look like the blade is longer ok then over 29 inches nothing that you can see like a showa mark or seki arsenial mark this would be marked by the back side of the habaki just pull back the habaki and inspect both sides of blade tang where the habaki sits if there is no marks then i would say your blade is from late 1700s possibly early 1800s hope this helps you best i can see have a great day andy militarynut

I would say Andy is right. It is a long blade . I like it Great Souvenir too bad it was messed with over the years
