Named Pipeback Damascus Hirschfänger - 05/25/2017 12:22 PM
Just got this piece in from Germany, just goes to show there is still a lot of stuff to be found.
Overall its very long at 27" with a 21" blade, a beautiful band damascus with the tang fully signed, if anybody can identify the smith from the initials I'd be grateful. The piece is in completely untouched condition with just a few small blemishes on the blade but nothing to bad really. A really nice but very simple looking piece, I do not see to many pipeback hirschfängers out there, it probably dates from around 1900-1910, the name on the blade under the Riccasso Robert Hackenberg is the Distributor, he was working in Remscheid which is very near Solingen during this period. The fittings were produced by WK&c whom I believe were the makers although it is unmarked in that respect.
