Hi everyone!
just wanted to show my new purchase for my
dak ring collection.
Its a neillo style dak 1941 ring.
looks like a higher end made Libyan made ring. stamped T900. so a higher silver content than the T800 rings. Plus the detail is much nicer than my other neillo rings.
cheers everyone!
Hi Todd- got a front/top shot? And maybe a closer look at the "T900?"
ya having issues with posting the pictures lol almost edited lol
heres a close up of the T900 stamp
looks very similar to this information description about DAK rings
Does look similar that's for sure! I've seen that ad- have one in my photo archive! My stamp looks different, though, but it's a "T800". Don't know much about the T900s except as you mention higher grade of silver..
hi mike! yes i got 2 dak rings with the T800 stamp. ive only seen a couple T900 stamps on dak rings. and there usually niello high end dak rings. the camel and mosques are usually really detailed compared to the T800 stamped rings. heres a picture of a T900 stamp ring with a hallmark stamp as well.
cheers!
The ring is looking pretty good,,not really liking the stamp though. Could just be my monitor..
Try and make some better shots. IF your 'macro' isn't so good I've seen nice shots thru a large magnifying glass!
So with a ring looking in such fine condition as that you should see the lines are carved, made, [dug out] with a bit, they should look sharp...
Same with the stamp,,should be nice and clear.. Hopefully all is well with it.
hi gaspare! i took a couple more photos
hope this helps. if not ill try again in the day light tomorrow.
looks like the stamp was struck on an angle, making the T fatter on one side.
cheers and thanks for your opinion
heres another picture of the stamp in better daylight. you can see the strike was done on an angle. you can see that from the T.
what you think?
cheers!
Hhhmmph!.,, try getting a nice clear shot of the front,,or some of the carved areas..
sorry gaspare! ill try better!
heres more close ups. if these arent good enough ill try getting better pictures later on tonight when i get home.
heres more pictures
hope this helps!
thanks again for helping
The ring itself looks on this rather small pics so far good.
But the hallmarking looks not like a clear and fine punched in one.
Real don`t know what i should think about.
hi gotz!
which one bothers you with the T900 stamping? i hope this picture helps. i find the stamping is really deep in the silver. where most rings ive seen are less deep. this ring doesn't have a hallmark stamp. just the t900 stamp. the above picture with the hallmark was a different ring that i was showing Mike. thanks gotz!
An old and well known problem.
Real not easy to make good, large and clear pics of a piece of jewelry.
On the last pic the hallmark looks much better.
Looks it is depending of quality, angle and light while taking the pic.
yes my problem is my photos are over 4mb. then i have an app that resizes the pictures because this website only allows pictures under 156kb. so the pictures have to be shrunk. sorry about the bad photo's and thanks for the help gotz!
cheers
you know this ring is a bit worrisome to me also. Wish you could get a good clear photo up.. There are ways [I just don't know how] to get big clear photos up..
I set a big file size on cam, then take photo with ring real small,,then crop to just the ring,,usually works..
I think in the computer help section there is a way that shows ways to posting large clear photos..
Postimage.io works really well- I choose the "message board" size and it looks great.
ill email you the pictures if thats cool with you gaspare. thanks again! and ill try that postimage.io thanks mike!
Goodtimes,,Members,,
Check out these photos! Really study them,look......

,,,,
well after seeing these photos,,this is either the worst quality DAK ring ever made!,,,OR a fake..
I'm really thinking fake.. What is that hole on the front?
The content is looking like a cast.
What is the date 19 m? H? ?
The carved lines have no structure,,no design they are trying to make. Just looks like cuts, marks..
No offence meant,,its not something I'd want in my collection. IF you got it in a load of trade and it didn't count for much towards the trade and you really like it,,then fine.. But if is counting for a bunch of money, $100. or even more.,,No way!
hi gaspare
being a crudely made ring in Libya. i see errors, but ive seen errors in most bazaar market made rings. look at my other ring. the 4 looks like a C lol and ive seen rings missing the 1 on the edge due to wear. and theres holes every where on this ring.
heres another one from a dak collector in Germany. has many dak rings.
you see the holes and crudely made 4 and no number 1 at all! niello style rings i find have crudely made dak 1941 writing (font)
in my opinion. what you guys think?
I'll certainly raise a flag on many of the points G makes. But I've been to he Mideast- I'm not certain it's NECESSARILY casting causing ALL the pits in SOME of those rings... it's sand! let me put it this way. If you're in the desert- sandstorms are no joke! They kill people and suffocate horses and all kinds of stuff!! I would imagine that a dak unit? You would get sandblasted!! Here's my experience in a nutshell.... I got sand in places I didn't know I had!
hey!! maybe the same guy made them all!
Guess thats why I don't collect these
[more for you guys!]
Main thing as I always say,, IF
your happy with it thats what matters most. Good presentation!
Happy Hunting guys!
Lol! Maybe. But like I said I do Iike those other points G- great micro photos too, man.
thanks gaspare and mike! and thanks gaspare for the great close up shots. i love dak rings due to the fact that they were purchased in the location of battles. no other ring can say that. they bought them while in towns or cities and were fighting in these countries. very cool! cheers to you both!
Here are a couple more Libyan rings shown the simple style of the embellishments, and the basic cut design borders. These are pretty much standard on most of these rings. I wouldn't say your rings are low quality, and I don't believe they are fake. I would say they are the average quality you would find in an African made DAK.
re missing 1, that ring shown looks like it never had the full date on it, the nelio is perfect where the 1 should be, why the last number is missing is a puzzle. mike
very cool rings Dak1941! i agree! ive seen backwards swastikas even lol and it seems like they couldn't make a proper 4 in 1941! lol but very cool history to these rings and i love how they look! my favourite rings for sure!
its the only one ive seen thats missing the 1... ive seen ones that the ones worn because its close to the sides on the front plate...and it looks like they just plain forgot to put it in lol very odd!
here's what I call a good stamped Tunis mark:
here's how most of the rings were bought.
This is from a
series of shots showing the transaction. -soldier finds sale booth-soldier tries on different rings- photo of selection of rings.
They will be in my book in nice large size nice and clear. Sorry but had to keep small here and red stripe to keep from being 'stolen'.
This is the soldier trying on rings at the sale booth:
- this is from the right hand corner of previous shot,,,
Shows selection of different rings:
very cool pictures gaspare! very cool! how you find those?
over 30 years of hunting!
Todd, as far as the missing "1", it happens, dont sweat it. I have a number of mistake rings, and an artisan made Italian silver ring dated "944". These guys cranked them out for the troops, and soelling be damned! Also, very very cool pics,G I knew how they were purchased, just never saw the "transaction"!
actually i find the mistakes cool. each ring has there own personality if you know what im saying. each one different. love your ring pictures! some beauties! very cool
I kind of like them too, for their personality, and simple designs. The top of the Oran ring shows the Atlas mountains in Algeria. And I like the feel of the old world craftsmanship in them too, even when flawed. I collect different "place names" so to speak. Surprising how many there are..
goodtimes,,DAK41,, and the rest of you DAK ring collectors, I know you guys will appreciate this one [?]
I don't collect them,,I like them, but only have a few representative pieces.
This is one. A gift from a collector years ago at the MAX for always helping him out. It IS a gigantic ring. Big in size, shape, etc. a big hunky ring. And,,,unfortunately its been de-nazified!
yeah they really did a number on it , just like it was wiped clean off!
Still a neat ring, G.. its unique!
very cool ring gaspare! too bad about the denazification! any T900 or T800 stamp?
, no , no content stamp,,but it does have the big square Tunis stamp..
I think at this next MAX I'll use it as a prize!
There are usually 6 or 9 ring collectors I see at every MAX. At the last day of the show,,,who ever has gotten the best ring , cufflink, tie clip, watch fob, at the show will get this ring for a free prize!!
The items must be military theme,,and be from Germany/Axis. We'll find 3 collectors and what ever they think is the coolest piece will be the winner!
very cool idea! never been to the MAX. being in canada, our shows are nothing compared to that im sure. i got to make it out one of these days! i work for an airline so i have no excuses
G your enthusiasm for our collecting niche is infectious... I had a related idea about a traveling trophy of sorts for the ring of the year... let us not forget Götz has this honor- two years running!
