I made the mistake of listing a named purple heart on a Facebook "for sale" local page. It started off with a dozen people telling me I was breaking the law and they were reporting me. After that didn't work, they changed to insults and threats. Everything from I was a drug addict needing cash to I ought to have my *&# whipped. I even had a local cop telling me what trash I was and how he had "watched his brothers die in the sand". Two lessons were learned on my part. 1. You can't argue with the truly ignorant and 2. Stay off unmoderated or poorly moderated sites/pages.

Sad to hear about your experiences.
But yes, the uninformed public (or worse under informed) have no problem spewing forth.

I was read the riot act once by an old lady at a flea market as i was buying a Nazi banner. All I could do was stand there and take it and then walk away. Nothing I could have said would have enlightened her, and I did not know her life experiences that obviously helped fuel that tirade.

In my shop too I get people "you can't sell that" with both the german and the US medal stuff.

Yes, I guess after the Feds failed to show up and arrest me, they figured the name calling and threats to do bodily harm might do me in! It was a no win situation.
An antique store owner near me told me that an old lady came down from an upper room of her store and proclaimed in a very loud voice (during a busy time at the front counter to the owner) "there is a book upstairs that you cannot sell in this store or anywhere you need to remove it immediately!!!" ...it was a run-of-the mill, pretty poorly kept English edition of mein kampf, of course..,

Many years ago a family member told me I should be a shame of myself after showing him a WWII German dress sword, because the gold plating was made from Jewish gold teeth. I simply told him I got the sword from a Jewish antique dealer. He did not have a come back for that.

Back when I used to hang flyers out, some D.F.C. laid into me about Nazi stuff.
My response was " go f%$# yourself cu%%".
She about crapped her pants.
Told her if you don`t like living in a "semi" free country, get the f@#@ out of the USA!!
