This was my first dagger I acquired in 1979.
You picked a fine dagger as your first one! I wasn't that lucky. My first dagger was a fake luftwaffe dagger

John,
Very nice early Sa, looks to be in very nice condition.

Thanks, really I should of said my first original dagger, about 1972/73 I had three 'Spanish fakes'when I first started out(SA,Navy,RAD all marked ACS)like every body else I learned from my mistakes, this one came from the son of a British army officer, who had 'liberated' loads of edged weapons but over the years sold off or had given to relatives.I bought what he had left SA a complete army dagger and an M33 SS dagger. The SA dagger has a bit of bruising on the back of the grip and you can see that it had been dropped at some time as the scabbard chape tip has been flatterned.I also got Mr Stephens book Reproduction? Recognition! which has been one of the best buys ever and you can never have enough books.
I couldn't agree more with you about referencebooks. Any new collector should start buying books before buying daggers. It saves alot of money (and disappointment).
Very nice dagger. my 1st was a fake army marked holler, but my 1st real one was a SA by franz steinhoff
Nice SA! I remember getting a repro Luft as well. Still have it and the nice case it came with. Books and hands on are a must!
Great conditioned Spitzer John.
