The nicks all around the eagle would give me pause. Plus I don't like the RZM/maker marks not being center...could be just a "Monday morning" dagger, but I'm no expert. I would pass.

A Monday morning of the most recent time frame I would say.

Hi Vintage, First of all, thanks for your time.

I raised this dagger to your attention because of a few things that do not match with the standards I would expect to see here.

I agree the scratches around the bird may be an issue, but the bird itself looks (IMHO) good to me (same one here in post #29: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194473&page=34).

I would really appreciate any comment that would lead me to learn, identify what is wrong in this piece (what's not period, what is/is not legit, parts, etc.).

Coments like xxx looks horrible are ok and of course appreciated in order not to keep this piece, but something else would be much appreciated.

Thank you all endeed for your attention !!!

Have a nice day,

Marc

What I have learned the last couple of years in this great hobby is if you have ANY questions on an object...walk away.....If you buy something like this, you will always have these nagging questions in the back of your mind. I am a novice when it comes to SS daggers and was almost burned on one. There are many red flags with this piece. The nicks and gouges(sp?) around the eagle means it has been messed with before...that right there is enough to walk away. As said above, the SS button does not look right, looks to have also been messed with as far as placement. I'm sure this dagger judging by condition is about $1500-2000, that's too much to spend on something that is questionable. Walk away from it my friend.

Good luck, Patrick

Patrick is 100% correct.

If you have any hesitation ... walk away. That hesitation won't go away if you buy it, it will only grow.

Marc....a concern that many collectors have is posting information publickly that helps the forgers produce better fakes.

Private conversations keep the information between honest collectors.

A book I would recommend on SS daggers if you don't already have it is 'Exploring The Dresss Daggers and Swords of the German SS' by Thomas T. Whittmann.

I wish you and All of or fellow forum memmbers a Very Merry Christmas.
