Hi guys
I have a question on this Grosser sword scabbard.
I have never seen navy style scabbard married with army or imperial police sword.
Any opinions ?
Thank you

Hi Stingray,

That is my favourite hilt! The best quality of gilding to be found! Here are a couple others.

I do not believe that that sword came originally with that navy scabbard: it's simple decorations do not match the superb quality and sophistication of the sword's hilt.

But I would like to see that blade... Does it bear the mark of the maker?

Best regards,

Herman

Thanks guys
Herman, well because the patina, shape and length of the scabbard which fits perfectly I believe the scabbard is original to the sword.
I don't think is possible to switch scabbards with this kind of blade shape.
Here are some pictures of the blade.
By the way, beautiful swords Herman, thanks.

Beautiful Damascus blade, Stingray, congratulations!

Same shape as one of mine, but those Damascus ones do not bear a maker mark, right?

So you might like to know who made these?

Best regards,

Herman

Stingray,

Those were made by Carl Kaiser & Co, founded in Solingen in the year 1899 and already out of business immediately after WWI (in 1919).
This firm was specialised in high quality officer swords and was the supplier of the Royal Bavarian court.
The unique hilt is very typical for officer swords by this maker.

Best regards,

Herman

This one is Damascus and shape like yours, but for an artillery officer.
