Hello,
Would like to kindly ask Community's help in this items identification.
Recently I have purchased this Hunting Cutlass with the Damascus Blade.
Overall it does look OK, but I would like to be sure. I haven't seen such Damascus pattern earlier, and it looks like really hand forged, Maiden Hair?
All the other parts do look like Carl Eickhorn production and there are assembling numbers on the inner side of several parts "1" and "0".
Would be delighted to receive any feedback on the item, most interested in valuation of the authencity.
Thank you in advance! Please do find the photos below.
Kind Regards,
Henric

Welcome to the forum.
,,....
Ironically, I have personally seen your hunting cutlass...about 25-30 years ago in northeast Ohio!
It is not a true Damascus blade . The "pattern" has been artificially etched/engraved into the blade.

Regards

Hello Foxart,

Thank you, It took some time to get here:)
The Globe is small.
If so, I do not really know how such an etching is possible to make, most probably it took a lot of effort.
But do you think it was period made, or the postwar production? The blade? Or the dagger overall?

Henric.
Yes, small indeed.

I think that the cutlass itself is 100% period (pre-1945).

However, whether the blade "etching" is original or post-war is subject to debate.
Personally, I have never seen anything quite like it before or since seeing this one.

Hope this helps.

Foxart,

Thank you, anyway now I do have more information about this dagger and I am glad there are two of us who do see it as period production:)
I have investigated a bit, and have found few blades with the similar pattern, looks to be quite old.
Anyway I plan to keep it for myself and maybe will try to make some technical analysis of the blade, if I will have a chance.
Thank you for your effort, it is what makes the hobby so nice, another cutlass with own story.

Best Regards,
Henric
