Check out the ad that ran on an auction site a while ago..

* "Only 8 of these little beauties left!!!  You are bidding on a beautiful REPLICA, sterling silver plated, knife edge, jump ring size 10. These are the same as the ones pictured in the German paratrooperbook, by Robert Kurtz, on page 35. These were made by paratroopers as mementos of the jumps they made. , a terrific MAN'S ring. Show this off at your next event!!! These are beautiful rings, not the cheap cast rings from czechsville. These are made  by me. They can be easily resized, but will fit a size 9.5-10.. Thankyou for bidding". *

This is the photo of the ring that appears in the book:

This is the ring he makes. He words his ad honestly at least! Sold as a fake and by seeing the word "event" probably made for the reenactors....

The counterfeiters of rings having been thwarted many times on the commercially produced by jeweler rings and have seemingly decided to move on..They have for the last couple of years moved onto these type of campaign rings and unit emblem rings..They figure it is very hard to detect these fakes from originals and have stepped up production.. Well, they are right, and we're seeing more and more of them. These type of rings unless they come with a very good provenance should be avoided. Of course if you see one that you just must have and the price is right buy it, enjoy it..You ultimately must be the one to like it well enough to include it in your collection of originals..,G.

Campaign rings and unit emblem rings as you said are easier to produce and hard to detect from originals because they often are made ( and engraved) by hand. These rings are supposed to be made by soldiers or locals. Look at the WW1 trench rings made after the GreatWar..they are memory rings ( in their way accepted authenticals but not trench made); indeed hard to detect.
The repro Kreta ring has a more industral engraving; interesting to see how they tried to copy the writing if I compare.
Thanks for the pictures and info Gaspare.

Here's an old topic!.. I occasionally get an email about a campaign ring. What do I think about it etc. etc. Really I don't know. I don't collect them,,and only have a few from family members that were brought back. This 10 yr old topic shows and describes counterfeit campaign type rings. Posting it just as a reminder..

IF you like them great but I can't help you on authenticity. Please post them here on the forum and I'm sure the guys that collect them can help.
Happy hunting and be careful..
